What this is

Future Machine Girls is an independent editorial index of hotels, organised into four categories: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. Sixteen properties are covered. Each gets a short written entry describing the building, the rooms and the experience of staying there.

The site is deliberately geo-neutral. It is not a national guide and does not write from the perspective of any one country — the properties sit wherever the category naturally led, which in practice means Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Arctic. The exception is the casino category, which is drawn entirely from Canada.

Why these four categories

Because they disagree with each other productively. An art hotel maximises what surrounds you; a capsule hotel minimises what belongs to you; a casino hotel is a hotel wrapped around an entertainment business; an ice hotel is a hotel that ceases to exist in April. Reading them together says more about what a hotel actually is than any one of them says alone.

How properties are chosen

They are real, currently operating hotels that clearly belong to their category rather than gesturing at it, and they are chosen to show a range within it — different scales, different climates, different kinds of guest. Nobody pays to appear here and nobody can pay to be removed on grounds other than factual error.

What we do not do

No bookings, no prices, no availability, no affiliate links, no user reviews, no star ratings and no ranked lists. Anything that would require us to claim a commercial position we have not taken, we leave out.

Accuracy

Entries describe character rather than specifications, partly because character lasts longer. Even so, hotels refit rooms, change restaurants and adjust seasons. Where this index and a hotel disagree, the hotel is right. Corrections are welcome and acted on.
